CareFlight (NSW) has been retrieving patients since the early 1980’s, we have over 20,000 retrievals on our database. We have over 60 Doctors and 80 Registered Nurses working for us nationally. We currently operate in;

* New South Wales, (Augusta 109, BK 117, Lear Jet 36A)
* Northern Territory, (BK 117, King Air 200 x 4, Beechjet 400A, Westwind Jet)
* Queensland, (Cessna Citation, Dash 8 )
* Western Australia, (Beechjet 400A)

In terms of clinical acuity, we function at the higher end of the acuity scale, were the first retrieval organisation to successfully perform an international Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) transfer in
2008 and the first private organisation to ever perform an international Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) retrieval in 2009. We transport around 1000 ventilated patients annually.

Retrieval as with any patient contact is a bit like an equestrian event. You don’t accrue points for the missions you complete successfully; you accrue penalties (reputational hits) for the missions you have problems with.
